35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' - MAT25:31-46
A religion that takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them is no religion.
Mohandas Gandhi
One of the greatest diseases is to be nobody to anybody.
Mother Teresa
Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men.
Mohandas Ghandi
Our Beliefs:
We want to find giving hearts - not create guilty ones
We don't deal in statistics or demographics - because they don't matter. What matters is the mother and her 13 year old son sleeping behind the 7-11 when it's 30 degrees out. They need a blanket and something to eat
The best way to ease our own hurts is to help ease someone else -that's why the recovery circle and the blankets go together
We're not out there to change someone's beliefs - we're there to give them a blanket. We witness with our actions
No velvet robes or perfect people allowed
We are not here to cure homelessness. We are here to give aid and comfort to those who need it, to the extent that they are ready to receive it
Yes we are disciples of Christ, and we want to win souls - but we also know that kind actions will always create more believers than fervent words
12 step recovery is just a recipe or living the Lord's prayer -That's why it works when you put Christ at the center of it. You don't have to be an addict to benefit from it - you just have to be honest about the fact that you're hurting
"I believe If Jesus came to Norfolk to visit for just one hour - I don't think he'd spend it in a multimillion dollar air conditioned auditorium clapping along with a rock band. Jesus was a field man - I think he would be out on an inner city street corner with us - passing out blankets" - Chris Martineau- Executive Director
Sometime in the last 7 days, a homeless person looked you in the eyes, and you looked away because you didn't think you could help them and it made you sad - That's who we serve - so now's your chance...
How the Money Is Used
30% to 60% of funds raised by the fund raising team supports the fundraising force and keeps them in the field
1% - 5% compensates the counseling staff and homeless assistance field workers (These costs vary but are capped at $500 per week, so the more donations we recieve, the smaller of the over all percentage they require)
1% - 5% covers administrative costs (These costs also vary, but are capped at $750 per week, so the more donations we recieve, the smaller of the over all percentage they require)
30% to 38% Goes to local charities such as the Norfolk Foodbank, Judeo Christian Outreach, Seton Youth Shelter Thrift Stores and CHKD Thrift Stores to secure food, blankets and other supplies (Meaning multiple local charities benefit from your assistance)
80% of charitable grant money and unsolicited donations secures food clothing and blankets for distribution to the homeless and funding of recovery meetings and case management expenses
